When Robert Pattinson got the coveted role of Edward Cullen, he cemented himself in all of minds as an actor to watch. Since
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 completed the saga, Pattinson has remained on the lookout for new projects, and he's been moving farther and farther away from the role that made him a worldwide star.
So, it hasn't been that long, but that certainly doesn't mean that RPattz hasn't been busy! Here are the highlights from Robert Pattinson's life post-Twilight?
Exploring indie territory
Throughout filming the
Twilight movies, Robert Pattinson made multiple forays into independent film, and that trend continued after the saga wrapped. Shying a bit away from Hollywood for more "avant-garde" projects, like the Australian dystopian drama
The Rover and David Cronenberg's dark
Maps to the Stars with Julianne Moore. Oh, and he's been having an awful lot of onscreen sex (in
Maps and
Little Ashes).
Later, he'll be appearing with Nicole Kidman in Werner Herzog's
Queen of the Desert about the life of a female traveler/archaeologist in modern-day Iraq. Then, he'll star alongside Dane DeHaan in
Life about a Life magazine photographer and his friendship with James Dean. In 2016, he'll star in a movie based on a book by existentialist master Jean-Paul Sartre. Pretty impressive stuff.
Getting unexplainable haircuts
Back in November of 2014, Pattinson revealed one of the most unconventional haircuts I've ever laid my eyes on. While it looked much more normal from the front, as soon as he turned around, he revealed that it's actually a page boy bowl cut that highlights a landing strip.
Honestly, this is one of the things I love most about R.Pattz: the total commitment to doing his own thing.
Commenting on his inspiration for Fifty Shades of Grey
When Reuters sat down for an interview with Pattinson, they asked him how strange it was to see the sexually dominant character Christian Grey as inspired by his performance as Edward Cullen. He responded in no uncertain terms:
It's kind of weird and also I've known Jamie [Dornan] for about 10 years. I haven't actually read the book but I think it must be very, very different. I don't see how it can work if it's not different. It's amazing; it's that fan base. There's some kind of profound connection that a bunch of people have to it and I've never figured out quite what it is.
Keep that trademark distance, he admits that it's "weird" to be attached to the current cultural phenomenon.
Getting an asteroid named after him
In the most bizarre bit of RPattz news, an amateur astronomer in Russia chose to name a 1.4-mile asteroid "236789 Pattinson" after the famous actor. This was reported by the International Astronomical Union and has got to be way more impressive than anything most actors achieve.
