Magnolia Pictures to release 'Bel Ami' in the USA on June 8

US Pattinson fans will be happy - It looks like Bel Ami finally has a distributor AND release date!

Magnolia Pictures has acquired US distribution rights to the film. The following press release was posted on Deadline.com:

New York – (March 12, 2012) – The Wagner/Cuban Company’s Magnolia Pictures announced today the June 8th U.S. theatrical release of BEL AMI, starring Robert Pattinson, Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas, Christina Ricci, and Colm Meaney. BEL AMI had its World Premiere as an Official Selection of last month’s 62nd Berlin International Film Festival.

In this sexy retelling of Guy de Maupassant’s classic tale of blackmail, manipulation, and social-climbing, set against 19th century Paris, Pattinson stars as the young and very ambitious George Duroy, who discovers that his unadulterated passion and seduction skills with influential Parisian ladies (Ricci, Thurman, and Thomas), above-all, is the fastest and most effective way to the upper echelons of the society he so desperately wants to control.

Directed by Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod, the film was written by Rachel Bennette, produced by Uberto Pasolini (The Full Monty), and Simon Fuller of XIX Entertainment (“American Idol,” “So You Think You Can Dance”) executive produced.

Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions (SPWA) will handle all other U.S. media.

“BEL AMI is a well-crafted, appealing film with a terrific ensemble cast,” said Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles. “We think it’s a great fit for our Ultra VOD program.”

The deal was negotiated for Magnolia by SVP of Acquisitions Dori Begley and Head of Business Affairs Chris Matson with SPWA’s EVP of Business Affairs Michael Helfand and VP Acquisitions and Distribution Tana Evans.

It looks like all of our vocalization finally paid off!

Bel Ami is also listed on the Magnolia Pictures website!

Join the Cause - Bring Bel Ami to the U.S.!

I know my fellow stateside Rob fans can probably relate to the feelings of irritation and annoyance with the whole "Will Bel Ami Come to the U.S. or Won't It?" fiasco. If only there was something we could do to, I don't know, give those crazy distributors a little push to run with this juicy flick...

While we can't exactly wage an Occupy Hollywood movement, we can band together and interact with other fans who are just as eager to see the film cross the Atlantic. A group of Rob fans has created the Bring US Bel Ami Facebook page. Essentially, it's a grassroots campaign to get Bel Ami released over here. As they say on the page, if Betty White went to SNL as a result of some Facebook pushing, then Bel Ami can float on over here to our theaters too! ;)

Check the page out here and be sure to like it! You can also follow the cause on Twitter!

Robert Pattinson "Bel Ami" High Fashion

Way back in 2009, Robert Pattinson took a role in a movie called Bel Ami, which was apparently stuck on a shelf somewhere and forgot about. Luckily for RPattz fans, the film has been dusted off and a few pics occasionally trickle out to the public eye, including the recent batch that sees Pattinson in a few positions, including a couple of compromising ones.It looks like the UK might get to finally see Bel Ami in March next year, according to Marie Claire, but the US fans will have to settle for the pics right now because a US date hasn’t been revealed yet. Personally, I think the studio is going to wait as long as they can before letting Bel Ami hit the big screen because nobody wants to rain on the Twilight parade. After all, think about it. In the Twilight saga, Pattinson is the sparkly vampire that has the girls all aflutter; he’s the love of Bella’s life. Now, in Bel Ami, Rob plays a huge jerk that uses women for his own selfish purposes, sleeping with anyone in a skirt that can improve his social and financial status.

Christina Ricci Discusses Rob and 'Bel Ami'

Christina Ricci had nothing but nice things to say about Robert Pattinson in a recent interview with Collider.
The 31-year-old actress worked on Bel Ami with Pattinson and said he was "absolutely lovely" to work with:
"Oh, he's absolutely lovely! He's great in the movie. It's a very different role for him. It's classic Guy de Maupassant. It's very intersting, grittier material. It's really good."

Robert Pattinson's "Bel-Ami" Trailer Review

The Scorecard Review wrote a nice piece on the trailer for Rob's long awaited Bel-Ami:

Thoughts by TSR: There are certain actors I find myself rooting for. For one reason or another I rally behind them and hope they succeed. Robert Pattinson is one of those actors. I hate that he became part of a franchise with such vehement hatred spewed its way, making it difficult for him to be taken seriously. A lot of people hold Twilight against him and that’s too bad because I think he has legitimate talent. That itself is probably a crazy statement to some, but I stand behind it. I’m hoping Bel Ami is a film that helps Pattinson start to rid the bad, sparkling vampire taste from some folk’s mouths.

Before this trailer I wasn’t really aware of Bel Ami. I wasn’t familiar with the novel by Guy de Maupassant either, so I didn’t have any idea what to expect. What I got looks like a fairly interesting story of a man using his considerable charms to seduce the wives of influential men in order to boost his social status. Pattinson looks fine as the lead, but his co-star Uma Thurman looks less than impressive. Thurman has rarely impressed me outside her work in Tarantino films, so this doesn’t shock me, but I still hope the film proves her to give a stronger performance than the trailer leads me to believe. Kristin Scott Thomas also makes a welcome appearance and I’m certainly not a person who would casually write off a film that is smart enough to cast her. The story of Bel Ami intrigues me, but the trailer also shows off some strong production values. Between the plot, the sets and especially the costumes, this is a film I’ll definitely give a look when I get a chance to see it.

With the end in sight for Twilight, here’s hoping Robert Pattinson can break out of the franchise and make a name for himself on his own merits. I’m not sure if Bel Ami is going to be the film that achieves this, but this trailer gives me hope it can serve as a step in the right direction, and be a good film in its own right.

Thanks for the tip, Spunk-Ransom.com.

Robert Pattinson's 'Bel Ami' Trailer Hits Internet

Robert Pattinson is breaking hearts and scaling the Parisian social ladder in the first "Bel Ami" trailer, which hit the Internet on Saturday.

Fans have long been anticipated the sex-filled period drama, and the trailer delivers on that promise. Pattinson's character, George Duroy, is a journalist who rises to power by sleeping with the wives of the rich and influential. Uma Thurman, Christina Ricci and Kristin Scott Thomas all make appearances in the trailer as the ladies he seduces.

"Bel Ami" does not look like it bodes well for Pattinson's character, based on his screaming and shoving of women. Still, the fact that Duroy is "a totally amoral character" is a major element in the movie's plot. Stylistically, Pattinson's look in the movie hearkens to his Salvador Dali film "Little Ashes," so fans looking for an Edward Cullen coif will be disappointed.
