Vote for Robert Pattinson as Hottest Actor

Total Film has opened up the voting for their 2012 Hotlist.  Rob is up for Hottest Actor.

How do you follow up something like Twilight? If you’re Robert Pattinson, you go off and work with one of the quirkiest, most outrageous filmmakers out there.

That filmmaker is David Cronenberg, who’s making a return to the kind of hyper-manic storytelling of his early career with Cosmopolis. Pattinson plays a billionaire whose life takes a turn for the weird as he attempts to get across Manhattan.

With that and period drama Bel Ami, Pattinson’s clearly ready to lay Edward Cullin to rest. We can’t wait to see what he takes on next.

The Vancouver Sun Interviews Robert Pattinson

The Canadian newspaper sat down with Rob and David during their Cosmopolis promotion in Canada earlier this week to talk about the film.

TORONTO — Celebrated Canadian director David Cronenberg and Twilight star Robert Pattinson are hardly anti-establishment radicals.

But you would never know it from their film collaboration, Cosmopolis, which opens in theatres across Canada June 8.

Cosmopolis has already had its splashy premiere at the recent Cannes Film Festival, but the Toronto-based Cronenberg and the London-raised Pattinson are happy to be back in the city where they shot the film just last year.

Looking casual in slacks and shirts at a downtown Toronto hotel, the dapper filmmaker and handsome baseball cap-wearing leading man are making themselves available to promote the film, which exposes modern-day obsessions with greed and power.

But Cronenberg said that Cosmopolis is less an excuse for socio-political diatribes and more about an opportunity to present a fresh story. And yes, the 69-year-old understands that the film hits screens as anti-capitalist protests abound worldwide.

The movie, based on the 2003 Don DeLillo novel, tracks the bizarre day in the life of young Manhattan billionaire investor Eric Packer (Pattinson).

“I wrote the script almost three years ago,” said the director. Still, he’s fine with the fact Cosmopolis might be associated with current events.

“The whole structure of the book was very rich in social meaning, and comment,” noted Cronenberg, who reflected the theme in his screenplay. “And any good piece of art has universal meaning and complexity, and it is provocative on many levels.”

That includes the movie’s simplistic yet subversive storyline, which has Pattinson’s narcissistic billionaire travelling across town in his fancy white stretch limousine to get a haircut, even while his massive monetary portfolio collapses around him.

During his limo trip, he takes meetings, and takes stock of his isolated life as a visit by the U.S. president snarls New York traffic, and anti-Wall Street demonstrators attack his vehicle en route.

The role is Pattinson’s most demanding, so far. But he knew that reality when he signed up for it.

“I’m in pretty much every scene in the movie,” he said. “It was terrifying for me until I started doing the movie.”

Apparently, Cronenberg helped him through some of the more difficult moments, but the actor soon realized extra effort was required because he would be expected to do the dialogue exactly as written.

“I quite liked mechanically learning lines,” Pattinson said. “I spent every night of the shoot going over them.”

It’s no fluke that the Packer part is a notable transitional role away from his dreamy vampire Edward. Pattinson will end his five year relationship with the Twilight series, and Edward, after the release of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2 on Nov. 16.

Certainly, the avant-garde tone of Cosmopolis and the cynical outlook of Packer are major departures for the 26-year-old.

In one scene, Pattinson’s Packer has sex in his limo with an associate (Juliette Binoche) as though the act was a business meeting. His brief discussions with his coy wife (Sarah Gadon) outside the limo turn out to be more like negotiations than conversations.

Back in the limo, things get even stranger when the sex-obsessed Packer gets a rectal examination from a doctor, who finds out he has an asymmetrical prostate.

“Normally, you can tell what’s going to happen in a script when you are five pages into it, but not with this,” said Pattinson. “It’s crazy to feel the danger of doing something like Cosmopolis, but it was also exciting once I started doing it.”

At the climax, Packer has a 22-minute verbal stand off with a former employee (Paul Giamatti), who has threatened to murder him. The dialogue-heavy confrontation seems more suited to the stage than screen.

Certainly, the latest Cronenberg film represents his return to a more bizarre way of dressing up a film compared to his straightforward approach with last year’s A Dangerous Method.

But the director believes all of his movies — from Shivers to Cosmopolis — have one thing in common.

“I’ve always been interested in language,” Cronenberg said. “The language has always been crucial to me. My creative roots are more literary than cinematic.”
Indeed, Cronenberg and Pattinson relished the opportunity to make the wordy Cosmopolis interplay come together at the conclusion.

“We discovered stuff like the priest-confessional kind of thing that evolved,” said the director.

Pattinson added: “We knew when we were doing it that no one had ever done anything like this before, and it should not work.”

Meanwhile, their partnership will continue in some form. “We are hoping to work together again,” Cronenberg confirmed.

“There are no greenlit movies, but we don’t want to stop with Cosmopolis. We had a really good time, and Rob (Pattinson) has become one of my favourite actors.”

Smiling bashfully, Pattinson can’t help but to nod toward Cronenberg, offering a quiet‘Thank you.’

“That’s fantastic,” he said. “I didn’t think of myself, particularly, as an actor, until now.”

E! Online's Marc Malkin tweeted the following sad information today:

confirmed: 's rep jsut confirmed to me that he will NOT be at MTV Movie Awards because he'll be out promoting.

I'm still holding out hope that when Kristen takes the stage to receive the Best Kiss award, Rob will come sneaking around the corner and surprise everyone. Twilight has a big history with the MTV Awards and the show is famous for trying to surprise the fans with something every year so you never know.

Eric Maddox Happy To Have Robert Pattinson Portray Him in Mission: Blacklist

New article from W.E.N.N. says Eric Maddox is thrilled to have Robert Pattinson play him:
The war hero Robert Pattinson will portray in new movie Mission: Blacklist has given the Twilight star the thumbs up to play him after spending 14 hours with the Brit.

In the new movie, which chronicles the capture of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, Pattinson will play real-life military interrogator Eric Maddox, who wrote the book that inspired the film project.

And as the movie creates a buzz at the Cannes Film Festival in France, Maddox has gone public with his thoughts about the casting – and he approves.

He says, “For me, it was a no-brainer. I said absolutely! Whatever you did to get that guy to be a part of this movie, I think it’s wonderful and I fully support it. We’re talking about a guy who is super famous and really popular.

“We met for 14 hours and he focused exclusively on the project and wanted to get down to the nitty gritty of the project. His entire focus was on the project. It wasn’t about him or his needs, and from that, I realized that this is a guy who is dedicated to his work and wanted to put in the hours. That’s what made me certain that they have built the right team for this.”

Are British Actors Like Robert Pattinson Dominating Hollywood?

Cannes 2012: How British Actors are Dominating Hollywood Like Never Before

The success of actors like Robert Pattinson and Tom Hardy show that Brits are no longer just in demand as toffs and villains, reports Anita Singh.

Tom Hardy and Robert Pattinson
In the 30 years since Colin Welland collected an Oscar for Chariots of Fire and famously declared: "The British are coming!" there have been plenty of false dawns.
British actors flocked to Hollywood only to find themselves cast repeatedly as villains, fops and toffs. But this year's Cannes Film Festival proves that US studios have finally fallen for the charms of the British leading man.
The three major US films in competition all have British actors playing American leads.
Tom Hardy is the star of Lawless, a Prohibition-era gangster film in which he plays the toughest of three bootlegging brothers in rural Virginia.
Robert Pattinson, he of the teen Twilight franchise, plays the lead in another literary adaptation, Don DeLillo's Cosmopolis, as a billionaire Manhattanite.

And the long-awaited adaptation of Jack Kerouac's On The Road, that most quintessential of American novels, stars Yorkshire's Sam Riley as Sal Paradise.
It is a state of affairs mirrored in US television, where British actors are slipping seamlessly into US lead roles, from Hugh Laurie in House to Damian Lewis and David Harewood in Homeland.
Industry watchers say we have entered a golden age for Brits in Hollywood.

Five Key Scenes of Cosmopolis Trailer

We are sure by now you have watched the new Cosmopolis trailer at least 1 dozen times but you did you catch everything?

MTV put together a list of the 5 key scenes you should take note of:

The Office

Pattinson's co-star asks, "Where is your office? What do you do exactly?" We see a long stretch of limos and Eric Packer looking like James Bond as he stands in shades on the sidewalk. This opening scene sets the tone for Packer's character and his downfall as a billionaire who slowly loses control of the world around him.

Rats

As different characters enter and exit his limo, the film's story unfolds. As a passerby on the street holds a dead rat up to his window, one of the women inside with Packer tells him, "This is a protest against the future." While it's unclear what the protest is about, as the trailer continues rats are everywhere. More and more protesters wave them around the streets, one man throws them across a diner and one protester even has a giant rat head on his body. We're not sure what it means, but knowing Cronenberg, it most likely deals with symbolism of America's future.

"I Smell Sex All Over You"

If "Twilight" fans haven't yet realized this role is far from their beloved sparkly vampire, they do now. A smug look crosses the usually awkward actor's face after one of his conquests comments, "I smell sex all over you." Packer shrugs. He knows. Throughout the rest of the trailer, we see small clips of various sexual encounters in the limo that poses as his office — including one half-naked girl who points a laser gun at his chest.

Grab a Gun

Pattinson's no stranger to action. He's torn evil vampires apart, taken a beating in "Remember Me" and escaped a stampede of wild animals in "Water for Elephants." But in "Cosmopolis," we finally get to see the actor pack some heat. In one scene, Packer kicks open a door and pulls a gun on a person in the room. He's taking back control of a day that started out with a hair appointment and is ending with the wildest ride of his life.

Maybe the Gun Wasn't a Good Idea

There's an array of fast clips at the end, all flashing by in a sequence that could give anyone with epilepsy a seizure. But the one that immediately caught our attention has Pattinson shooting a bullet through his own hand. Yikes. Our palms began aching just watching it. From the looks of this trailer, we probably haven't even seen the worst of it yet.

"Cosmopolis" is scheduled to hit theaters later this year.

Robert Pattinson Has Iconic Hair

Robert Pattinson made the list of the top 30 most iconic hairstyles of all time. Rob is in good company with other celebs like James Dean, Elvis, Humphrey Bogart and George Clooney.

ROBERT PATTINSON
The Twilight star channels the spirit of James Dean in his hair, but keeps it fresh and vibrant by relaxing the sculpture. It’s messier than most, but it suits his face perfectly and adds a touch of masculinity to his boyish looks.
